Purpose

The purpose of Gila River Health Care’s Navigator Program is to provide an avenue for the upward mobility of aspiring Community members desiring career paths in health care. Gila River Health Care is committed to increasing the employment of its Community members. To meet this goal, Gila River Health Care is designing a program whereby members of the Community can be interviewed and selected for placement into a six month training program that will prepare them to meet the minimum qualifications of designated health care positions.

Navigator Program
The purpose of Gila River Health Care’s Navigator Program is to provide an avenue for the upward mobility of aspiring Community members desiring career paths in health care. Gila River Health Care is committed to increasing the employment of its Community members. To meet this goal, Gila River Health Care is designing a program hereby members of the Community can be interviewed and selected for placement into a six month training program that will prepare them to meet the minimum qualifications of designated health care positions.

Eligibility
To be considered for a Navigator Program position, you must be a member of the Gila River Indian Community and apply online at GRHC.ORG before November 20, 2015.

Navigators are placed with GRHC directors, managers and supervisors who have the capability to train, mentor and coach viable candidates to an acceptable competency level. Upon completion of the six-month training period, successful Navigators will be placed become a full time employee with benefits and placed in the first quartile of the salary grade for the position.

The Navigator Program will prepare candidates to meet the minimum qualifications of designated health care positions, including: Human Resources Recruiter, Digital & Video Coordinator, Mammography Coordinator, Radiologic Technologist, RN & LPN, Benefit Coordinator, Patient Registration Clerk and Collector.

The Navigator Program training plan will:
• Identify how the applicant will be trained using basic skills and competencies
• Develop action steps taken to ensure the applicant masters the needed competencies
• Provide reading materials and workshops
• Ensure opportunities for employee shadowing exist
• Provide peer mentoring to ensure a competency level for meeting the minimum qualifications of the position is achieved

A successful Navigator participant will have:
• Shown interest and applied his/her best effort
• Mastered 60% of the core skills outlined in the training plan
• Good attendance
• Demonstrated a strong propensity toward mastering the majority of skill sets

Navigator Program Description
Gila River Health Care is offering positions across the organization that will become part of a six-month training program. These positions exist within departments with strong and committed directors, managers and supervisors; and who have the capability of training, mentoring and coaching viable candidates to an acceptable competency level at the end of the six-month training period. Upon completion of the six month training period, Community members will be placed in the first quartile of the salary grade for the position.

Job descriptions for these positions will reflect necessary critical tasks, key performance indicators and metrics to adequately describe the position. The Navigator Program training plan will:

• Identify how the applicant will be trained using basic skills and competencies
• Develop action steps taken to ensure the applicant masters the needed competencies
• Provide reading materials and workshops
• Ensure opportunities for employee shadowing exist
• Provide peer mentoring to ensure a competency level for meeting the minimum qualifications of the position is achieved.

Navigator Orientation
A special reception will be held for all candidates selected for the program. All candidates selected for the Navigator Program will participate in a Special Navigator Orientation Program and will participate in Cornerstone Training (Customer Service Department) and service excellence training. Departmental Orientation Programs will occur during the first three days of week one of the program. The departmental orientation programs will include the following:

• Overview of all departmental activities
• Interviews with all departmental staff,
• A review of the organizational chart
• A review of all departmental forms
• Detailed explanation of the job description
• Meeting with HR to review HR Policies
• Meeting with the Compliance Officer to review Compliance Policy
• Meeting with the Department Support Administrator to review instructions for entering time into Empower

At the completion of the orientation program candidates will begin work on their specific training program. HR will meet with all candidates every two weeks to ensure candidates remain motivated, are feeling positive about their placements, provide any additional tools a candidate may need, address any concerns and ensuring the expected goals outlined by the department are being met.

Navigator Participant Review Process
• Every two weeks within the first 90 days, candidates will be reviewed based on expected competency levels against the training plan
• At the end of the first 45 days, GRHC Human Resources and the Department Director/Manager will meet with applicants to discuss progress, areas of strengths and areas of weaknesses
• The applicant will then be notified and coached on the skills needed to succeed
• Successful candidates will continue with 90 days of coaching, mentoring, peer collaboration and shadowing with a lead or manager to ensure a good solid work foundation is established
• At the conclusion of the 90-day period, and with a minimum 80% assessment level, the candidate will be will be offered a full time position within the first quartile of the salary range, paid time off accrual and benefits

Training Plans Include:
• Information on all technology skills, job processes, forms and procedures, oral and written communications and other competencies needed to function at the entry level of the designated position
• Various types of learning including auditory, kinetic and tactile exercises
• Computer literacy with written step-by-step procedures and hands on learning
• Will incorporate “take home” exercises, online resources and afford the applicant the ability to use computer equipment onsite after normal work hours for additional practice
• Written modules that build upon core skills training
• Built-in tests, skills demonstrations and other quantitative and qualitative assessments
• An overview of departmental processes so that the candidate is able to see the big picture
• Two mentors for each candidate so that the candidate has multiple mentors
• Flow chart business processes for the department assigned to ensure a good departmental overview and how their job tasks fit into the overall departmental function, programs and activities

At the conclusion of the six-month period, all successful Navigators will participate in a special reception hosted by the board of directors, CEO and executive leadership team and their mentors. Navigators will also be profiled in a special feature and published within the Gila River Indian News.
