Have you ever left a healthcare appointment and realized you weren’t completely sure what the Provider meant? You’re not alone. Healthcare can sometimes feel like a lot of information at once, and it’s perfectly okay to pause and ask for clarification.
Never feel embarrassed or shy about saying, “Can you explain that another way?” or “Could you please repeat that?” Your healthcare team wants you to understand what is happening and feel comfortable with the next steps.
If medical words or instructions are confusing, ask for simpler language. You can also write down questions before your appointment, bring a trusted family member or support person, or take notes during your visit.
Before you leave, make sure you understand what you need to do at home, how to take your medications, when you should return, and what changes you should watch for.
There are no “silly” health questions. Speaking up is an important part of taking charge of your health. When you understand your care, you can feel more confident making decisions for yourself and your family.
