School Health Services

School Health Services Department, in partnership with Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) schools, families, and communities provide quality health care and educational services to students and school staff while they are at school.  The primary goal of this department is to provide a foundation that enhances the health and wellness of all students and to keep children in school, in class, and ready to learn.

The School Health Nursing Department has Registered Nurses assigned to school locations that have made arrangements for our School Health Services to promote a healthy and safe environment. The goal is to facilitate self-responsibility for student health maintenance and preparedness for learning. School Health Services are provided across all GRIC districts, and include the following services:

  • Screenings for obesity/BMI, diabetes risk assessment, vision, hearing, hypertension, and scoliosis
  • Immunizations
  • Age-appropriate health education
  • Case management – student health care needs
  • Assessment and treatment of illnesses, injuries, and other acute health conditions
  • Administration of medication
  • Establish and maintain health records
  • Identification and management of students with a potential for crisis medical situations
  • Specialized health care procedures
  • Communicable disease control
  • Referral to appropriate health care providers and tribal agencies
  • Collaboration with parents and school officials regarding student and school health issues
